Thanks, this will help me a lot. Cheers.

im very glad im helping

Good information to know and by the way do you visit John k's blog? He's got some tips about animating in there as well.

i have never heard of john k but i will check out his blog. link?

Bookmarked, for future reference when I get Flash.
Thank you.

great, but you dont need flash to animate! make a flip book or get pivot stickfigure animator (http://pivot-stickfigure-animato r.en.softonic.com/)
or even pencil (http://www.pencil-animation.org/
)
liveswif is great also (www.liveswif.tevlar.net!)

OMFG I GOT THE ANIMATORS SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR CHRISTMAS
but it doesnt really help me since i animate madness

...
you don't know how to animate for real?! you just know how to animate madness?
dude. animation is an art in any form, im not telling you your way of life is wrong but i would recomend learning about true animating also. if you know how to do all animation forms you would be most likely to be picked for a job or be more likely to get into college

But the book's techniques on easing and motion paths helped me a shitload.

yeah, it is a helpful book. definately great for all levels

farfenwaffle says:

wait wait wait. what? why do you have pyramid clocks password? why did you give his password to someone? wait never mind, not my business

He is pyramid clock.

oooh. i understand :P silly me.

Thanks now I will animation.

yesh, indeed

Yeah, I've tried LiveSwif, and I've also tried the Flash CS3 free 30 day trial.
I liked Flash better, and I'm gonna save up until I can afford it.

thats great! if you ever get flash give me a pm!

ah sorry my post wasn't intended as a stab at you. this is a view i've held for long time and i'm just one of those types who has strong opinions. i'll admit that seeing your post did prompt me to make mine, but it definitely wasn't an attack on you.

i know you only want to help people and i know what its like to want to share your knowledge of something you're good at, and ive been known to give out flash tips on more than one occasion. and i suppose that in away that's what my post is too.

I'm just opposed to the indoctrination of new animators into thinking that there is a right and a wrong way of doing things, which seems to be more and more common these days.

But i think in the interests of fairness ill provide a link in my post to your post so that if people decide they want to take that path, they know the right places to look.

peace

oh ok im sorry for getting defensive. i really have noticed alot of people thinking that there is a right and wrong way of doing things. it is sad. i do agree with you to a point when it comes to people making tutorials on how to draw specific things like: "how to draw a chair exactly like me!" and things like that.
i try to avoid such things

Awesome, im giving this a shot right now. Thanks for all your help. Getting help from the flash forum is a little difficult.

yeah, it might take a bit to get a responce from the flash forum. but they have very wise people browsing that area often so as long as you state your problem clearly they will help bunches! be sure to remember there is NO wrong way to animate! because animation IS fantasy

Another good concept to remember is that everything moves in arcs. If something looks jerky, turn on the onion skin, pick one point on your character (like the tip of the ear, the eye, or the nose) and draw a line through all of the frames (or just visualize it). It's likely the line will be jerky. Once you line them up and form an arc it'll smooth out.

hey! thats really smart! how come i dident think of that? would you like me to put that up?

the only thing that's keeping me from animating is my artistic skill. I suck at art. I've got the rules of animation down.

yeah im the same way! the best way to cope with this is to just stop animating and learn to draw REAL people! everyone is an artist below all the rust. may i recomend this book? (http://www.amazon.com/Drawing-Ab solute-Beginner-Claire-Garcia/dp/
0823013952/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=b ooks&qid=1236909299&sr=1-1)

i need help with tweens/maskin 88

really? those are easy. what is the problem exactly

Most of the links you included are places I knew about years ago. I think it's most important to simply practice. Also, a graphics tablet helps greatly.

The book from your first link doesn't look helpful. I mean, dude, I know how animation works, I even understand how Flash works, now, which one is more complicated? I really think the best animation tutorials are the drawing tutorials from various comic artists. Once you can draw comics, you can draw animations. Animation just takes more patience.

well im sorry i was a bit late :) but alot of places would help the begginers the most. i highly recomend the aniamtors survival kit because no one can ever know everything about animation. that book does NOT just teach the basics, and animation is practice i agree with you fully. please consider getting the book because i have animated for many years and still found the book extremely usefull
"don't judge a book by its cover"

Yay hopefully I will be a designer in a few years :D!

yeah! hope i get around to that when i grow up! i always wanted to be one

Animation isn't as hard as people think it is.

It's just basically keyframe, keyframe, then a whole lotta inbetweens.

yeah, i agree. patience is what really makes it good. but i prefer straight ahead animation with a story board. inbetweens help when im in a rut

If you were wondering who John k was. He's a cartoonist influenced by classic cartoons.

He also created ren and stimpy.

Oh yeah and a link.

http://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/

wow! I think i might enjoy watching his blog. thank you for the recomendation

Illusion of life shows what various jobs and what they work with. Lots of pictures and shit. Didn't like how they talked about themselves in the book though.

yeah i heard of that book. i never bothered to pick it up, mabye i should read it

thanks this helped me but the filters are crap they say try and do the effects yourself because the filters slow the movie down and it doesn't run as smooth

yup, but if you ever need a subtle blur here and there it helps. especially since they are so hard to pull off if you don't use photoshop or gimp

thanks a lot^^
all that stuff and your tips will help me

your welcome! just remember practice makes perfect!
